What is a short haul move? This is a move that is less than 450 miles. Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves.
What is a local move? This usually refers to moves that are less than 100 miles and within the same state.
What is an intrastate move? This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state.
Do I have to empty all of my filing cabinets? Metal filing cabinets with 2-drawers can be left full, but you should empty the top 2 drawers of a 4-drawer cabinet. You should also completely empty all lateral file cabinets and all drawers of a wood cabinet.
Can movers transport my hot tub or spa? Yes, but moving companies will charge extra because these items require a special dolly and flatbed truck.
Do I need to provide lunch for my movers? Your moving professionals will need to eat at some point during the day. You don’t need to provide lunch, although doing so will reduce the time they require to drive to and from a local restaurant which will save you money.
Do I have to hire packers or can I do this myself? You can certainly choose to pack your belongings and hire employees to transport them for you. However, you can also hire professional packers who are very experienced and have access to the proper packing equipment.
What is an extra pickup? Most moving companies will charge you extra to make any stops to pick up or deliver additional items from anywhere other than your origin and destination.
What is a non-binding estimate? This is an estimate based on the moving company’s previous experience with similar moving jobs to yours and it’s subject to change.
What are wardrobes? ? These are special boxes that are designed to hold your clothes. Some come equipped with a hanging rod and can fit clothing from up to 3 linear feet of closet space.
What should I do with the food in my fridge? You must empty your refrigerator before moving it, so we recommend transporting your food and other perishables in a cooler during your move.
How should I file a complaint with my moving company if there is a problem? We recommend contacting your moving company immediately to discuss the situation and try to resolve the problem. If the issue isn’t resolved properly, you can file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, Federal Trade Commission Bureau of Consumer Protection, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration or the National Association of Attorneys General.
What is a tariff? This is a list of available services, rules and regulations and charges used by all motor carriers providing interstate transportation of household goods. You can ask for an inspection of these tariffs upon request.
